Improve Indoor Air Quality, Improve Grades

School GirlWant to know an important way to improve the productivity of students, teachers and support staff at Charlotte-Mecklenburg area schools? Improve the indoor air quality!1 Think of how much of the day students and staff spend indoors. Indoor air quality is crucial for health and well-being. Studies have shown that poor indoor air quality contributes to higher incidences of absenteeism, illness and asthma attacks.

An uncontrolled asthma-related attack obviously keeps the child from learning but the teacher must attend to the emergency, too. This affects the rest of the class as well. What are some typical asthma triggers? They include mold, dust mites, insect body parts and even chemicals. Remember, some Charlotte schools are quite old. These schools, particularly if they have been maintained poorly, may have issues with indoor air quality. However, even newer schools are not immune to poor indoor environment.

Health Care Facilities Prefer Green Carpet Cleaning Solutions

More and more these days, health care facilities are leaning toward green cleaning solutions for their carpeting1. The safety and well-being of their patients, visitors and staff due to reduced and/or safe chemical use is probably the main reason, but reduced drying times probably weighs in the decision, too.

When referring to the term “green” for carpet care, usually this is related to the use of environmentally safe solutions used in the cleaning process as well as low-moisture extractors. These products use a gallon or less of water (or solution) per minute. This will prevent mold and mildew from forming during the drying process, as well as keep the carpet from getting re-soiled during drying. Not only is this healthy from an indoor air quality standpoint, it’s beneficial to the facility from a business point of view, too.

Do Carpets Cause Allergies and Respiratory Problems?

Around 30 years ago in Sweden, many authorities came to the conclusion that carpeting in schools and medical facilities caused allergies and respiratory problems and even triggered childhood asthma. Sweden began removing carpets from educational facilities, then medical facilities and other health care related businesses followed suit. Soon afterward, the same thing began to occur in the US in locations like New York and Florida. However, no one had done any actual studies to see if the conclusions that were drawn were true.

Do you own and operate a day care facility? Or are you a parent with small children and perhaps haven’t had your carpets cleaned in awhile? Obviously, no one is trying to be alarmist here, but you really should take some time to consider the safety of your children if they are crawling around or playing on dirty, soiled carpet. According to a study conducted by the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene1, it is difficult, if not impossible, to remove carpet contaminants, including lead, with vacuuming alone. What did the study conclude was the best way to remove contaminants from carpet? Steam cleaning, which happens to be the method used by Cline Services Carpet Cleaning!
